Free Ceiling Insulation? Yee Hah!

The Australian Federal Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package is in full swing now and runs right through to middle/end of 2011. It’s subsidising the cost of installing ceiling insulation in up to 2.9 million homes across Australia.

The rebates through this scheme are worth up to $1600 $1200 (changed from 1st November 2009) for eligible owner-occupiers, landlords and tenants (it even includes holiday homes), who want to install new ceiling insulation in up to 2.9 million homes across the country that are currently uninsulated, or have very little ceiling insulation.

free ceiling insulation The Australian Government estimates that up to 40 per cent of Australian homes are not insulated, which is why they are investing $4 billion in this package to improve the energy efficiency of Australian homes (as part of their $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan).

Now… if your place doesn’t have ceiling insulation installed, you’ve simply got to understand that it’s gonna be a LOT colder in winter, and a lot hotter in summer than it really needs to be!

Ceiling insulation alone has the potential to cut your home heating and cooling bills by up to $200 a year. The actual cost savings depend on the construction of your home, its location and your overall energy consumption patterns.

Insulation can also reduce condensation on your walls and ceilings, leading to improved health outcomes for you and your family!

And since this government rebate will cover the purchase and installation costs in most cases…

Sounds like some very good reasons to have it done if you ask me!

Oh….

If you’re on the mid north coast of NSW, then check out North Coast Insulations to get your free ceiling insulation installed!

They are a registered installer under this scheme, and cover the area between Buladelah, Forster, Taree, Laurieton, Port Macquarie, Wauchope, Telegraph Point & Kempsey, up to Scott’s Head!

So check them out and see if you are eligible for this rebate!

Many people have been knocking on my door in terms of convincing me they are the best when it comes to free ceiling insulation however I am afraid they do not necessarily comply with the government standards. Yes, I want my ceiling to be insulated but I am not sure who I can trust. Could you please recommend someone in the Penrith and Newcastle area (I have two houses and wish to do both)

    Hi Marie-Ann

Yeah - I’d have to agree… it seems every man and his dog are advertising to get a bite of this market! I’ve seen lots of ads from people who seem to have no real close relationship to the insulation industry!

It is important to remember that the installer you choose MUST be registered with the Australian Government under this scheme! So that’s the first thing to check!

Also, as most jobs will cost LESS than the maximum rebate available, then in MOST cases, NO MONEY should change hands - i.e. you will NOT pay the installer! The Government does that once the installer lodges the appropriate forms, signed by you, after the job has been satisfactorily completed!

As far as selecting a suitable installer… When faced with multiple choices, I’d personally go for someone who “does” it normally - i.e. a recognised insulation company/builder.

I can’t recommend anyone in Penrith, but maybe North Coast Insulations can help you out in Newcastle… my tech friend was doing work for them on some computers which were destined to go to there :) Click the link in the article above to visit their site.

    UPDATE

Important Changes to the Australian Government’s Energy Efficient Homes Package.

As of the 1st November 2009, the maximum rebate for homeowners has been REDUCED from $1600 to $1200. The rebate for landlords has also increased from $100 to $1200.

Apparently there were far too many people lodging rebates for the maximum amount (presumably for jobs which did not cost that much) so the Government has reduced the rebate available in an effort to ensure that funds do not run out for this scheme too early.

    Hey Robert

Now THAT sounds something like what an “approved” installer should say… NOT! :)
