A few days ago the Australian Government announced it was offering Advertising agencies a “prize” of twenty million dollars to come up with a new “brand” to sell Australia overseas… and not just for tourism!

The new “Brand Australia” advertising campaign is designed to ensure continued interest in Australia not only as a tourist destination, but as a place to live, a place to invest in, etc… pretty “big picture” stuff.

Some of the interesting campaigns we’ve had:

• football, meat pies, kangaroos and Holden cars. Remember THAT campaign? If you do, then you must be starting to show your age
  
• Paul Hogan and his “put another shrimp on the barbie”,
  
• Kylie Minogue - our Queen of music and still a great ambassador O/S,
  
• and more recently Lara Bingle… the “Where the bloody hell are ya?” campaign was apparently a huge flop and even banned in a few overseas countries

So waddyareckon is gonna help sell Australia overseas?

Coincidence or not??? One thing I’ve noticed a lot more in the last few days has been this new Qantas “I still call Australia home” commercial!

The rebates through this scheme are worth up to $1600 $1200 (changed from 1st November 2009) for eligible owner-occupiers, landlords and tenants (it even includes holiday homes), who want to install new ceiling insulation in up to 2.9 million homes across the country that are currently uninsulated, or have very little ceiling insulation.

The Australian Government estimates that up to 40 per cent of Australian homes are not insulated, which is why they are investing $4 billion in this package to improve the energy efficiency of Australian homes (as part of their $42 billion Nation Building – Economic Stimulus Plan).

Now… if your place doesn’t have ceiling insulation installed, you’ve simply got to understand that it’s gonna be a LOT colder in winter, and a lot hotter in summer than it really needs to be!

Ceiling insulation alone has the potential to cut your home heating and cooling bills by up to $200 a year. The actual cost savings depend on the construction of your home, its location and your overall energy consumption patterns.

Insulation can also reduce condensation on your walls and ceilings, leading to improved health outcomes for you and your family!

And since this government rebate will cover the purchase and installation costs in most cases…

Sounds like some very good reasons to have it done if you ask me!

In Western Australia, they begin their 3rd and final “trial” year of daylight savings on 26th October, and it ends for them at 3.00am on Sunday 29th March 2009.

If, like me, you have difficulty remembering whether the clocks go forward or back, then just remember this little gem!

Fall (as in Autumn) back. (clocks go back)

And you’ll never be lost for time again!

These guys (and gals?) were captured at lunchtime today outside the Fish Co-op at Laurieton, on the mid-north coast of NSW (just 4.5 hrs north of Sydney, and 30mins south of Port Macquarie).

The weather was a little on the chilly side, so they were probably waiting for their order of hot fish to “go”.

Obviously, there’s some pretty good fish and chips available here… or at least, these pelicans seem to think so!

Aussies apparently lead the way in turning water into energy which, considering most our our “lucky country” is desert, is just a little strange…
